Team Namer

Quiz, work and social group names

Four generators for teams that sit down rather than suit up. The words come from the quiz sheet, the office, the message thread and the bookshelf, so the names sound like the group they are for.

How to choose a name for a quiz team or a social group

A name for a quiz team, a work team or a chat gets read far more often than it gets said. It sits at the top of a score sheet, in a meeting invite or above every message, so it has to look right in writing and stay funny the twentieth time. Wordplay does well here for that reason: a good pun rewards a second look.

Think about who else will see it. A quiz host reads the name to the whole room, a work team name ends up in front of a manager or a client, and a family chat includes people of three generations. The lists on these pages are clean on purpose, and the classic style is there when the name has to pass in a formal setting.

Inside jokes are the best names and no generator can write them for you, but it can give the joke a frame. Type the word that matters to your group, a street, a surname, the name of the project, into the box for a word to include, and the patterns build around it.

Length matters more than people expect. Quiz sheets have a small box, chat titles get cut off on a phone and calendar invites truncate. Set the longest-name filter before you fall for a name that will be abbreviated by everyone anyway.
